- The "Lost in Space Technical Handbook - Expanded Second Edition" is the culmination of decades of research by author/artist Ron Gross into the compelling hardware seen on the classic TV series "Lost in Space." The brilliantly diverse hardware of the show is represented objectively, in a studio production type of format. Many original special effects "secrets" are now revealed. This new book, now more than 35 years in the making, finally completes the three volume set devoted to Lost in Space and the other Irwin Allen TV properties as initially conceived by the author. There are a total of 50 technical blueprint views in this 230 page volume, some of which have been duplicated in a dramatic colored line-on-black scheme. The book covers the Jupiter 2, The Robot, The Chariot, the Space Pod, weaponry, and an assortment of accessory hardware. An added chapter also covers selected "alien" technology and related props. This new "Expanded Second Edition" also features several new photos, enlarged versions of others, and special contributions from various world class artisans. The amazing 3D renderings of Ron Haselius now augments the Jupiter 2 discussion. Then, the new “SCALE MODELING DERIVATIVES” section kicks off with an enhanced reprint of Ron Gross's own 1997 article for Scale Modeler Magazine, detailing his scratch-built Jupiter 2 prototype. Following that, the stunning modeling efforts of Mark Myers receives more attention. Dan Monroe's custom, full-scale Robot project (begun in the 1990's) is also featured, forever inspiring the efforts of the B9 Builders Club. Tom Pfrogner’s four- foot Jupiter 2 interior is then showcased, as is Andre Svacha’s “Officer 03” and Bill Hedges’ custom Chariot model. All this, plus a few more special surprises. Ron Gross first became aware of Lost in Space at age eleven, when the first promo for the show was broadcast by CBS in the summer of 1965. Lost in Space continued to capture Ron's imagination into adulthood, which resulted in various scratch-built modeling projects, and box cover art contributions to Irwin Allen-based model kits. Today Ron is officially licensed to create new graphic materials based on the Irwin Allen sci-fi television properties.
