- Flame Resist is a clear, flame resistant compound made with 100% natural ingredients, unlike other fire-retardant products. Flame Resist penetrates porous materials and provides a resistance to flame spread and the amount of smoke produced. Flame Resist can be applied to wood, fabric, paper, and other absorbent surfaces. Other areas of use are in attic insulation and roof framing and sheathing of residential homes or office buildings. By treating your fabrics and wood materials with Flame Resist, fires can self-extinguish before they cause damage. Must be applied to an absorbent surface; previously stained, sealed or otherwise finished is not acceptable. Testing here in Central Florida shows that average lifespan, unprotected, is 14-18 months, then reapplying is necessary. Latex base sealers extend the life considerably and are accepted in most areas. Check with your local fire officials and building department for their requirements. Hand pump sprayer or compressor driven sprayer with pressure between 25 to 35 PSI with fine spray tip for misting type applications. The first coat should be a light coat. Additional coats may be needed, and should be applied until the Flame Resist beads up on the surface making sure to wipe off any excess before it dries. FAILURE TO REMOVE EXCESS WILL RESULT IN THE PRODUCT DRYING TO AN OPAQUE WHITE INSTEAD OF THE DESIRED CLEAR FINISH. Allow approximately 15 minutes between coats. Flame Resist will cure in 8 to 10 hours, but material can be handled while wet. Complete curing may take several days depending upon conditions.
