In 1974, in Katterly, Texas, Kristen Cates, a young and enthusiastic police assistant, was recruited by Larry Dodd of the Stup Brigade. Together with teammate Jim Raynor, she is on a mission to infiltrate the drug community and gather evidence against Will Gaines, a nightclub owner and the area's main trafficker. Jim, who has several years of experience, introduces his partner to the various toxic substances so that they can credibly pass for a couple of drug addicts. Thanks to Walker, a small dealer who has become their friend, they get more and more doses. But instead of handing them over to his superiors, Jim keeps some of them for his personal use.
