A decade on, the band would sign a five album deal with Warner Brothers Records worth a staggering $80 million and would stay with Warners until their demise in 2011 but for now, it s 1984. With this gig taking place just a couple of months after its release, the set features many songs drawn from their acclaimed second album Reckoning, together with notable debut performances of Old Man Kensey and Driver 8 , to appear on 1985 s Fables of the Reconstruction, and a collection of covers and rarities. With impeccable sound quality throughout, and featuring a set list that is remarkable for both its quality and its rarity, this stunning CD captures R.E.M. early in their career showcasing the rich promise that would later see them become one of the biggest bands in the world.
