- The Bradford-born composer Frederick Delius was a cosmopolitan: of German descent, he studied in Leipzig, worked in Florida and settled in France. His Mass of Life, here sung in German, draws on Nietzsche's philosophical epic Also sprach Zarathustra. This collection also features other works by Delius, and music by Herbert Howells, a composer firmly in the English tradition, and the little-known Patrick Hadley, who celebrates the Derbyshire countryside in his choral work The Hills.
