- Crossing Borders is a continuing musical journey exploring the many sounds of Latin music in the western hemisphere. Los Tropicales take this music and add their own arrangements, as well as smooth improvisations, to ten songs that can leave a listener wanting to hear more. 'Los Tropicales' was formed approximately 11 years ago when guitarist and singer, Michael Romero, began playing old boleros such as the ones recorded by Edie Gorme and the trio Los Panchos. Leroy Lucero joined him, adding bass and vocals. Later came Steve Leger playing flute, trumpet, and bongos. About a year later, Lee Norman Gonzales joined the group, adding a third voice, sax, and rhythm guitar. The result was a group that is versatile and can produce three-part vocal harmony. The members have decades of musical experience, both in performing and teaching. It didn't take long for 'Los Tropicales' to begin using their knowledge and expertise to fuse bolero with Tejano, Latin jazz, and other Latin styles from around the world. 'Aside from being excellent musicians, the four have a chemistry that makes it obvious they like working together and they are a joy to listen to.' (Las Vegas Optic, 9/17/04)
