Sobre este producto
  • Human and bicycle-powered taxis have a long and storied history throughout southeast Asia, and Thailand is no exception. In Thailand it was the Samlor (สามล้อไทย [สาม = three/ ลัอ = wheel] or Samlor Teep (สามล้อถีบ [pedal-powered tricycle]) that emerged as the favored form of human-powered mode of short distance passenger and cargo transport for decades until it was ultimately displaced by modern motorized vehicles. This book was written to celebrate the Samlor, and will hopefully provide the reader with a window into the Samlor’s rich, often-overlooked history and its vital contribution to the cultural landscape of cities like Chiang Mai. It celebrates the daily toil and deep-seated pride of the veteran drivers, whose powerful legs literally keep this tradition moving. It's sad to see this iconic machine disappearing from Thai streets and alleyways, and frustrating that so little is being done to preserve it. My hope is that this book might, in some small way, help keep the spirit of the Samlor alive.
