This book presents easy violin scale exercises and bowings on major scales in first position. Useful as an introductory book for scales, this book is also helpful with building tone and exploring the finger patterns in different keys. The book begins with the G major scale and teaches basic slur patterns and easy rhythms. After exercises on the D and A scales, the book progresses to other keys, grouped by finger patterns. The book continues with slow scale studies for vibrato, eighth-note scale studies for speed, and a section on learning first position violin arpeggios. First Position Scales works well along with Finger Exercises for the Violin, Book One, Flying Fiddle Duets for Two Violins, Book One, and Playing in Keys for Violin, Book One.
