The Kinks found themselves without a record deal after scoring one of the biggest hits of their career when their contracts lapsed with labels on both sides of the Atlantic. The band rebounded nicely, signing a five-album deal with RCA Records in 1971 starting with Muswell Hillbillies and the following year’s Everybody’s In Show Biz. The former LP found only modest success, but the latter performed better, achieving a #70 chart peak. In 1972, The Kinks crossed the Atlantic for the third year running since their 1965-69 ban and since hitting big with the sexually ambiguous Lola.
