- The original title for this album was going to be 'Single Woman's Honky Tonk'. But in the interim our 'single woman' got married and had a beautiful child (Alex). So a few of these tunes are about how some man done some woman wrong (Like 'Johnny Black' and 'A Delicate Dance'). But we also added 'Joshua Beside Me', which is a testament to Jennifer's feelings for her husband Joshua. Mike added a few of his songs as well. 'Rain' and 'Edna Michael's Waltz' are entirely acoustic. And 'Koshks' was a tune about an old girlfriend of his from way back. The tale of the misbehaving Cat Clock... To complete this record, which, honestly, took way longer than it should have, Mike dutifully got in his car week after week and drove from his home in Herndon VA 'crossing' over into Maryland to our recording studio, which was in Jennifer's basement in Rockville. We decided this weekly journey needed a muse to add a little 'fairy dust' and luck to our efforts. We decided to call ourselves Io's Crossing. Io being a moon of Jupiter and one of Zeus' lovers. While she isn't, strictly speaking, one of the muses, she is a mythical character and we liked the way it sounded. During recording we had to contend with Jennifer's two disobedient cats and the 'cat clock' that hangs on the wall and 'meows' for 15 seconds every hour on the hour. We had to stop recording and let the clock finish before we could start again. We also used that to let us know when it was time to stop. Hey, it ain't over till the Cat Clock sings.
