- Impromptu: a brief history The artist known as "Impromptu" (we weren't known as anything, formerly) came into being during the summer of 1993. Our guiding principle has always been that good music is fun, and best shared - with each other, with our audiences, with anyone we can corral into listening to us. We also believe that through music we can best express our appreciation of the Creator's gifts to us, our families, our neighborhoods, and our environment. Both our rehearsals and our performances reflect these beliefs. We rehearse in each others' homes, with each others' partners and children and pets gathered around us; indeed, they are often our inspiration. And we perform in community settings, churches, schools, and retirement centers. The word "concert" is almost too formal for what we do; there is always audience participation and we utilize a number of props, among which we count plastic animal snouts, flying frogs, and a bubble machine. Our personnel has remained quite stable during Impromptu's lifetime. Of the original twelve members, seven remain, and in the interval the babes that used to tumble through our sheet music are now tall and beautiful while others of us are bringing new little ones to rehearsal. We have also had the luck to recruit wonderful new additions to our "extended family." And the adventure continuesâ?¦ This, our first CD, feels long overdue, but we are happy and proud to share the fruits of our love and labor with you at last. We could not have done so but for the sustained and generous encouragement of our supporters. To them, and to you, we give thanks and wish you the joy of music.
