- Solid waste management has emerged as a critical concern in India, particularly in rural areas, where inefficient practices lead to waste accumulation and various socio-economic and environmental issues. The 73rd Amendment Act of 1992 delegated "Health and sanitation" to Panchayats, highlighting their role in waste management. This thesis examines waste management in rural Andhra Pradesh, focusing on Ananthapuramu district. It analyses current systems from collection to disposal, emphasizing infrastructure, maintenance, and resource availability. Public awareness and participation are assessed to design effective strategies. The study also evaluates "Waste to Resource Sheds" under the Swachh Bharat Mission to gauge their effectiveness. Identifying key issues, the thesis provides recommendations for improvement, aiming to enhance waste management practices and infrastructure in Ananthapuramu district and rural Andhra Pradesh. This research contributes to understanding rural waste management, offering practical solutions for better waste management practices.
