- When Philadelphia neurosurgeon Simon Pure investigates the strange case of an elderly woman with a live dog in her brain, he finds himself trapped in an old comic book, the June 1946 edition of Fantastic Comics, where he is Tal Avenger, doing battle with the evil Dr. Sariot Kosh in his lair on the bottom of Lake Champlain. The lair was built for Kosh by a medusa named Dorothea, who falls in love with Tal Avenger, causing Kosh to explode with jealousy and rage. After a furious fight, the wounded medusa returns to the lake, where she is eaten by the shad and pike. The medusa’s death allows Simon to escape the comic book world and return to Philadelphia, where he resumes his practice, but longs for the beautiful Marianna, his comic book companion and lover. Does he rejoin Marianna? Is he again the super-hero Tal Avenger? We won’t know until the July issue of Fantastic Comics hits the street.
