Built around the Broadcom SAS3808 Tri-Mode I/O controller, this 8-port 12Gb/s SAS HBA (Compatible with LSI 9500-8i) brings PCIe Gen4 x8 bandwidth to your storage stack, with support for SAS, SATA and PCIe (NVMe) devices on the same adapter. The x8 PCIe 4.0 host interface delivers up to 16 GT/s per lane, providing plenty of throughput for high-density JBODs, U.2/U.3 NVMe backplanes and next-generation NAS or server builds. Flashed to HBA IT Mode, the card exposes each drive directly to the operating system—ideal for software-defined storage such as ZFS, TrueNAS/FreeNAS, unRAID, Proxmox and ESXi. With one internal SlimSAS SFF-8654 connector (x8 lanes), you can connect up to 8 SAS/SATA/NVMe devices via the appropriate breakout cable and then scale out further using an external SAS Expander, enabling very large arrays without changing your host interface. In typical Tri-Mode configurations, a single 9500-series HBA can address up to 1024 SAS/SATA or 32 NVMe devices through expanders and UBM-managed backplanes. This adapter is a strong choice for home-lab enthusiasts and data-center admins who want to modernize older SAS/SATA platforms or build new Gen4 servers.
