Neoregelia 'Magali' is a real stunner of a bromeliad. It's known for its large rosette, reaching up to 2 feet wide, highlighted by a vivid magenta red center. These intensely vivid leaves are contrasted by predominantly green outer leaves, which feature red as well. 'Magali' is a vigorous grower that can easily reach a height of about 18 inches or so and it produces long-lasting blooms. The inflorescence (or flower stalk) can last for weeks or even months, and the flowers themselves are small, pinkish-purple bracts that cluster around the central cup. After the plant flowers, the rosette dies but is succeeded by offsets, or pups, produced by the plant. In summer, keep the soil moist, but in winter allow it to dry completely before watering. The center cup, or tank or vase, is where clusters of tiny flowers grow. It should be kept filled with water year-round. Flush out completely every couple of weeks to avoid stagnant water. Rainwater or distilled water preferred, as tap water causes mineral buildup. Provide bright, indirect light and good airflow. Neoregelias are light feeders. They prefer humidity around 60%, so consider using a humidifier or pebble tray if your home is on the dry side.
