Of all the ABBA compilations on the market, this is the most thorough. While the very popular Gold album only focuses on the big hits, this one is for those looking for a bit more. Essential contains all of their official singles, in chronological order, plus a few choice cuts (Bang-A-Boomerang, That's Me, Happy New Year, and One Man, One Woman were not technically singles, but did have music videos, so their inclusion is not random, and the quality of these tracks are equal to those that were hits). The only downside of the album being in chronological order is that the singles from Ring Ring are first, and aside from the title track, they are the weakest of the bunch, but once you get past those, all of the songs are fantastic. I recommend this album to those who want the full ABBA experience.
