A draw knife (also draw knife, drawing iron, peeling iron, hoop knife (Bavarian: Roafmessa) or ripening iron (Bavarian: Roafeisn), Wagner knife, barrel scraper) [1] [2] [3] [4] is a tool for woodworking. It consists of an often slightly arched, stable and about 30 cm long single-edged blade, at both ends of which there are handles with which you can pull the draw knife towards you over the workpiece. Draw knives are often used for fine debarking and polishing of branches and trunks (in contrast to peeling irons or scoops), for processing beams and stakes and round timber, as well as by sculptors or archers for rough shaping. It is also an important tool for the Wagner and calculator to make wooden wheels and wooden rakes. Pull knives are also indispensable for coopers (daubers, coopers, shepherds, binders) in barrel construction, as well as in traditional sled and toboggan construction. It can also be used to produce kindling wood, match chips and pine chips. Blade The blade of the draft knife is ground on one side only at an angle of 25 degrees (for softwood) to 40 degrees (for hardwood).
