- Finally - a contemporary's approach to set operations with SetSphere's ASPL! This user guide is about how to get the most of ASPL, A Set Programming Language, an interpreter serving as the first set-calculator to do instantaneous calculations on composite objects representing groups. The most aggregate of information structure is the object. A computer system can be programmed as a set-calculator to manipulate objects. ASPL is such calculator that allows the user to interact with datasets for instantaneous data analysis and visual comparison. The ASPL calculator is the first to provide the users with symbolic operators to aggregate and do set operations on their datasets. This calculator has rich operational characteristics to perform set operations, and to provide the users with real time semantic interactivity with their datasets. It has abundant operators to do group operations, sequence operations, similarity calculations, and differential group operations on temporal data. ASPL provides novelty and powerful simple symbolic commands: the question mark ? to interrogate a group represented by a set variable, and the @ to display the set variable along its archived data. Adding the ASPL interpreter to your UNIX system will add new breath to your scripts to inspect the configuration of your cloud environment. Powered with a modernized symbol table, an answer stack, and typeless set variables, the user gets the feel of using a classical calculator. Using ASPL commands is simple since ASPL set operators are inherently derived from the way we learn set algebra in school. ASPL set operators are termed setadic operators: they are entered firstly on the left of the command line, then followed by their operands. In addition to the symbolic set operators, one can use verb command to do other operations such as: split, merge, lmerge, purge, compare, align, similarity, search, and even send notification when data in a group has changed. ASPL symbolic programming is hard to compare with the programming language SETL, developed at New York University (NYU) Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences in the late 1960s by Schwartz, Dewar, and Schonberg. SETL is a typed language that implements finite sets with maps. It has two aggregate types for sets and tuples. It is a functional language, not a symbolic language. ASPL is typeless, symbolic (under the hood, it is a factory methods based), containment based with dynamically loadable containers, interactive, and its objects are hashes that have SHAPES. ASPL runs on any UNIX system where the Perl interpreter is available. In ASPL, the elements have attributes that can be tied to anonymous functions and even being updated by streaming data from UNIX devices (via the proprietary Udev tie interface).
