- This is a series of books by Publisher/Editor/Photographer Ruben MacBlue with photos and stories written about the rock music scene in Hollywood, California from 1976 to 2010. These will be pictorial books with photos and pages from Ruben's publications; SCRATCH Magazine, LA Rocks, and Rock City News, plus commentary, stories, interviews, and songs. As a photographer, Ruben shot bands almost nightly for 26 years and published them in his magazines that were distributed weekly throughout Los Angeles and Orange County, California. Ruben currently maintains the Rock City Museum with various items from his publishing days, including over a quarter of a million photographs.Ruben was always on the cutting edge of new music and cultural trends, and was first to discover, interview, and feature almost every major band from L.A. for 26 years, and featured every new club and style of music, including punk, rockabilly, new wave, alternative, rap, goth, glam metal, and hardcore metal. All these different styles of music were combined in Ruben’s publications, and all the musicians gathered at the Hollywood Clubs to meet and see their pictures in Ruben’s publications, which were like a yearbook for musicians in Los Angeles, and could they be called “The First Social Media” and “The First Facebook.” Ruben also produced 15 Annual Rock City Awards Shows called "The Rockies," Produced 6 Annual Compilation CDs as Rock City Records, and also promoted art, fashion, and Melrose Avenue.Starting with his late 70s party period in the Hollywood Hills, Ruben brought the party kids to the new Hollywood clubs and ignited a music scene that continued for over two decades. During that time Ruben always promoted the best bands through his magazines and his many events. Without missing a beat, Ruben started, built, and fueled "The Greatest Music Scene Ever,” a music scene that defined a generation. Ruben is now publishing his photo pictorial books in a series of up to 50 books, called “When Hollywood Rocked.”
