- This book is fiction. It is a wild ride of deception and change, but it began with research on a very real trip to Hungary in the late 90s after contact with long lost family. There had been no known contact since the early 50s between my family members in Hungary and here in the U.S. My grandfather had come to the U.S. in 1903, without his bride and four children. They came later. He told his offspring, including my father, that he left because the church had stolen his land. He never told them why or where. No one in the family knew any more than this. About this time my son had created a web site for my business and called me to say that the site was up. I typed in my name and found the site, but because of the unusual spelling of my name, also some information in what I thought was Magyar (Hungarian) appeared. I found names that looked like mine. I realized that I had probably found family. After making contact with a young man who was definitely the great grandson of one of my grandad's brothers, my wife and I ended up in Budapest about six months later. While there, we met many family members and our research into their stories began to evolve into many threads and many different possibilities. This story is the result of those years of research and ultimately my take on what may have happened in that land of silver mines and political turmoil. It takes you through countries that had just come out from behind the iron curtain amid abandoned communal farms and a twelfth century silver mining town in an ancient volcanic caldera in a land where present day greed is exposed.
