  • Music Record Label The International Record Syndicate, or I.R.S. Records, was an American record label founded in 1979 by Miles Copeland III (brother of The Police's Stewart Copeland). With distributing done by A&M Records, and later MCA Records and EMI. IRS produced & issued records for some of the most important new wave acts of the 1980s. This includes R.E.M., the Go-Go's, Wall of Voodoo, Fine Young Cannibals, Oingo Boingo, The Bangles, The Alarm, The English Beat, and more. The label also hosted a show on MTV (US) called I.R.S. Records Presents: The Cutting Edge (also known as The Cutting Edge or IRS's The Cutting Edge). It was a music program that aired from March 1983 to September 1987, on the last Sunday of every month. The show was retitled The Cutting Edge Happy Hour in 1986.
